This Isolated Wetlands Bill—S.1206 would create clear protections for "isolated" wetlands in South Carolina that are no longer being protected by federal permitting programs. This bill would require avoidance of impacts to wetlands over .5 acres where practicable and mitigation for the impacts that do occur. The bill would also provide special protection to Carolina Bays. This is a compromise bill that is the result of several years of negotiations and so far has bipartisan support.
