Bartram Group Endorses

Candidates for November Elections

Not Blue, Not Red, but Green!

The Executive Committee of the Bartram Group has voted to endorse three candidates for upcoming elections. Endorsements are based on the past voting records and accomplishments of candidates (when available) as well as their commitment to environmental issues in the Upstate and statewide. You are strongly urged to consider these candidates if they represent your respective districts.

SC Senate District 07

Ralph Anderson

Senator Anderson helped to promote a significant compromise in regards to House Bill 4328 during the 2007-2008 Legislative year. This bill aimed to recode procedures of the Administrative Law Court. However, amendments gutted the appeals process. The temporary 30 day “automatic stay” was narrowed to 3 days. This meant that irreversible, negative environmental impacts could occur before citizens are granted the opportunity to present their case before a judge. Senator Anderson’sefforts helped give citizens 30 days for a hearing if a request is made to lift a stay and requires Administrative Law Court judges to render a decision within a reasonable time period. This gives citizens and grassroots organizations the opportunity to review public notices and make informed decisions.

SC House District 23

Chandra Dillard

Councilwoman Dillard has shown a strong commitment to natural resource protection while serving on the Greenville City Council. The Bartram Group looks forward to working with Ms. Dillard on statewide environmental issues. Her dedication to issues that affect families, neighborhoods, and the environment will be invaluable in the SC House.

Greenville County Council District 24

James Akers

Mr. Akers’ responses to a Sierra Club questionnaire indicate that he is committed to land use planning and local transportation issues that will serve the citizens of Greenville County and its natural resources well.
